Overseas Travel Packing Tips

As you might already know, I am originally from Bulgaria and I travel overseas quite often. In this post I am sharing some of my best travel packing tips. I am very organized when it comes to packing, especially since I started blogging. These tips help me make the most out of my trips with minimal efforts.

Overseas Travel Packing Tips: Give yourself enough time

I like to start packing up to a week before my trip depending on where I am going and for how long. I did this for the first time two years ago for my trip to Bulgaria and it was the least stressful packing ever. Similar to now, I was leaving during the weekend and had a super busy week before my trip. Packing a little bit every day made me actually enjoy the process, helped me stay organized, and I didn’t forget anything!

Overseas Travel Packing Tips: Plan your outfits

If I am going away for less than 10 days, I always plan my outfits for each day and I bring a few additional options. This way I am prepared to take photos on my vacation and I am not wasting time figuring out what to wear every day. A little trick that I do is to take a picture of each outfit that I can later reference – this way I won’t forget any of the accessories that go with it!

Overseas Travel Packing Tips: Use your carry on wisely

I always bring outfits for the first couple days in my carry on. We arrive in Spain really late at night and we will be staying at a hotel by the airport the first night and then drive to our destination the second day. I don’t want to have to unpack everything for one night, so having an outfit in my carry on makes it so much easier. I always pack a few comfortable outfits as well as my most expensive items in my carry on. Many people underestimate this, but my luggage has gotten delayed multiple times and completely got lost once, so this little trick has really saved me. Also, make sure your carry on size fits the standards for the counties you are traveling through. If the flight is full and you luggage doesn’t meet the standards, they will most likely make you check it in.

It happened to me last year on our trip to Bulgaria. My boyfriend and I refused to check in our carry ons but they were not going to let us get on the plain, unless we checked them in. I was able to take my laptop and jewelry, but they literally pulled my bag out of my hands. Our luggage got delayed and we arrived in Bulgaria with NO luggage. Luckily, we were staying in a hotel at the airport the first night and our bags arrived early the next morning.

Overseas Travel Packing Tips: Take advantage of travel sized packaging

A few years ago on a trip to Bulgaria with my mom, our check in luggage got lost and was never found. I was traveling back to Bulgaria for my prom and we had bough so much new makeup and perfumes that we took with us. We did get reimbursed for most when it got missing, but it was a horrible experience. Since then, I always pack small travel sized items   and avoid full sized pack or bring products that are less than half full. Luckily we had my prom dress and shoes and my mom’s outfit in our carry ons together with some extra underwear, a pair of jeans and tees. We were only there for 10 days and didn’t have time to go shopping, so we had to survive with these clothes. I ended up borrowing clothes and makeup from friends, but overall it was one of the worst experiences in my life.

Overseas Travel Packing Tips: Wrinkle free clothes

This trick applies pretty much to any trip, does not have to be overseas. To prevent my clothes from wrinkling, I roll them in a tube instead of folding them. The delicate materials usually still get some wrinkles. My boyfriend taught me this amazing trick and it was so eye opening. It only works for delicate fabrics like silks and satins. When you get in the shower, hang the garment inside the bathroom – by the time you are done showering, your clothes are wrinkle free from the steam!

I hope you guys found my tips helpful. I will be posting a packing list of everything I am bringing with me at the end of the week, so make sure to come back and check it out in the Travel Section of my blog!
